LaTeX needs to know beforehand that the subsequent text does indeed contain mathematical elements. This is because LaTeX typesets maths notation differently from normal text:
Type | Inline (within text) formulas | Displayed equations |
---|---|---|
\begin{math}...\end{math} | \begin{displaymath}...\end{displaymath} | |
LaTeX shorthand | \(...\) | \[...\] |
TeX shorthand | $...$ | $$...$$ |
Equation numbering | \begin{equation}...\end{equation} |
To start a new paragraph in LATEX, leave a blank line in between or use the command \\ or use the command \newline
